Welcome Fruit Finders of Rossland!

A digital upgrade to Community Gleaning

Keen to pick some local fruit? Know where public fruit trees are around Rossland? Or have a tree on your property to share? This map is a collaborative effort to help make the most of the abundance of local fruit and reduce human-wildlife conflicts. Please contribute!

The BearSmart task force has linked up with the Food task force to bring you the Rossland Fruit Finder app.

A community fruit picking/gleaning day is planned for September 24th but this app will allow us to crowdsource information, reduce wildlife attractants and enjoy some harvesting outside of that event.

You should make a single record for each type of tree and you can indicate if there are multiple trees of that type under that record.

For example: 3 apple trees and 2 plums – make one record for the apples (set number of trees to 3) and one for the plums (set number of trees to 2). Multiple trees show up as larger dots on the map.

You should only mark a record as ‘fully picked’ if all the trees in that record (e.g. 3 apple trees) are fully picked. This lets folks know there is no need to return to that location for apples.

If you’re having difficulty loading the app, try again using incognito/private browsing mode on your browser.

If that doesn’t work, clearing browser data is the solution – follow these steps.

Very little! The app is about 4 MB (equivalent to an average website or one streaming song).

The trees indicated with a lock symbol on the map are included to help avoid confusion and accidental harvesting.

Please contact rosslandfruit@gmail.com with questions, comments, or if you need data removed or changed in the app.
