The Sustainability Commission is made up of a group of citizen volunteers in Rossland. Keep informed of our events and initiatives by subscribing to our mailing list.
You can’t live in Rossland long without the neighbours introducing themselves, that includes the local bear families. While they are usually as courteous as the rest of your neighbours, they don’t always ask to be invited over before helping themselves to your fruit trees, garbage can, or BBQ. The Bear Smart Task Forces is dedicated to promoting the best practices of living in bear country, and helping Rosslanders live in harmony with all our neighbours. Learn More
There aren’t too many Rosslanders that complain about shoveling their driveway. In fact, more often than not it’s done enthusiastically after a long day on the slopes. Unfortunately, climate change is threatening to make our winters warmer and summers smokier. In an effort to both reduce our contribution to climate change as well as to adapt to it, the Energy Task Force is focused on empowering Rosslanders to work towards a resilient low carbon future. While you would be forgiven for thinking otherwise from looking around our lush town, not everyone is born with a green thumb. For most of us there is a great deal to learn when it comes to growing healthy and sustainable food in this mountain town of ours. Thankfully, us not so green thumbs are not in this alone. The Food Security Task Force is focused on leading us towards universal access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food for all Rosslanders.

While Rossland might have been built on gold, it’s been a long time since it’s been the economic driver in our town. There have been a range of industries helping sustain local jobs over the years with no shortage of booms and busts. The Economic Development Task Force works to understand the needs required to keep our local economy prosperous for all Rosslanders.
